Back in October 2024, while the market was still too busy chasing AI tickers and rate-cut rumors to care about small-cap nuclear plays, I picked up 6 shares of NuScale Power Corporation (SMR) for $108.28.
Why NuScale? Because underneath the headlines and hand-wringing about the nuclear industry, there’s a slow-moving tectonic shift.
Governments want clean energy.
They want energy independence. They want something that works when the sun doesn’t shine and the wind doesn’t blow. NuScale’s modular reactors aren’t science fiction—they’re already licensed. And unlike a lot of “green” plays, SMR had actual Department of Energy backing.
So I took a small swing. Nothing heroic. Just a starter position.
Then I waited.
Fast forward to June 17, 2025. SMR had quietly gone vertical—no meme-stock antics, just good old-fashioned rerating. I sold 3 of my 6 shares for $122.29.
Same story: my entire initial investment, now back in cash.
But here’s the kicker:
I still own 3 shares of SMR.
Cost basis? $0.00 (I actually made $14 cash off this trade)
That’s the Double-Up Free Stock method in action, a BUY SELL and KEEP strategy for small investments
You don’t need a PhD in options trading. You don’t need to time the bottom or catch the top. You just need a little conviction, a calculator, and the patience to let a thesis play out.
Now I’ve got a zero-cost position in a company that might help write the next chapter of global energy policy. Maybe SMR gets acquired. Maybe it fizzles. Maybe it quietly 10x’s while no one’s looking. Doesn’t matter—my downside’s already off the table.
And upside? That’s just gravy.
