Back on September 6, I boldly claimed that JD.com was dirt cheap and I bought. Today—October 7: it is up 63% in just one month.
Here are all the numbers. I just sold 37 shares for $1,577, recovering my entire investment of $1,564.63 (from buying 60 shares at $26.08 each) and even making a humble $12.37 profit. Better yet, I now have 23 more free shares of JD.com sitting comfortably in my portfolio.

The Trade Breakdown

  • Bought 60 JD shares at $26.08 each = $1,564.63 total (check the original trade here)
  • Sold 37 shares for $1,577 (around $42.62 per share)
  • Profit from sale: $12.37
  • Still holding 23 free shares, now valued at $980.30.

Why JD Soared

The secret sauce behind JD’s meteoric rise? A little help from China’s stimulus package. On September 24, the Chinese government introduced a broad set of economic stimulus measures. They aimed to revive consumer spending. They also aimed to bolster infrastructure and provide some tax breaks. JD, with its sprawling e-commerce platform and unmatched logistics network, was perfectly positioned to take advantage. The result? JD shares shot up by over 63% in just one month.

Why I’m Still Holding JD.com

I’m now sitting on 23 free shares of JD, and I plan to hold them. Why? JD.com isn’t just one of China’s largest e-commerce companies, it’s also heavily invested in cloud computing, AI, and fintech. Even after the recent run-up, JD is trading with a Price-to-Sales ratio below 1, which suggests there’s still a lot of growth potential.

JD’s stock was worth nearly two times its current price in 2020, and with its unique combination of logistics expertise and consumer reach, I’m not ready to let go of these shares just yet. For more details on why I follow this strategy, check out my Double-Up Free Stock Strategy.

The Bottom Line

Was it luck? Timing? Maybe a bit of both. But, thanks to the stimulus package and some strategic foresight, I’m now holding free shares with no risk and a little extra cash in my pocket. The takeaway? Stick to the plan, and sometimes the market throws you a lucky break. Here’s to my 23 free JD shares and whatever comes next!
