Often in our little discussions we use some symbols related to stocks. YoY (or yoy) means Year on Year. It compares a certain comany perforamance figure  between this year and the previous year. Example:If we look at  EBAY's key statistics on yahoo finance , which is our main source of company performance data, we will find:

Qtrly Revenue Growth (yoy):34.80% meaning that during the most recent quarter available for this year ( first quarter 2006) Ebay's Revenue grew 34.80% compared to the corresponding quarter of last year ( first quarter 2005)

We will also (unfortunately for me and for some other proletarian investors) notice that:

Qtrly Earnings Growth (yoy):-3.10% meaning that during the most recent quarter available for this year ( first quarter 2006) Ebay's earnings fell 3.10% compared to the corresponding quarter of last year ( first quarter 2005).

This lets us understand  two concepts:

1) what does yoy mean

2) why my unlucky EBAY stock went down so fast lately!
